Want to become a wine expert? It's easier than
you think.
It's a fallacy that you have to find expensive
and critically praised wines for your home "wine cellar." But
it's much better to try all types of wines from many areas
and price ranges. You'll be better equipped then to compare
wines. That way, when you find a really fine wine, you'll know
it!
Use your Palm Pilot or buy a notebook, and start
a wine "diary". For each wine you try, list the
name and label information, when and where you bought it, the
price. Note the meal you enjoyed with the wine. It's very easy
to forgot the name of the wine you once tried and enjoyed -
a notebook will provide you with a reference that's as handy
as your kitchen cookbooks. |

If you listen to WJR radio, you've probably
noticed that we're a sponsor of the Michigan Football Fantasy
Weekend. If you go to www.mgoblue.com,
you can sign up for their free drawing. (It's on the lower
right of the page.) And, Michigan fans, don't forget to celebrate
at D'Amato's Ann Arbor after we win the big Ohio State game. |

We've gathered up tips from our customers about their
pet peeves, suggestions, etc. about restaurant dining. Here's what
they had to say:
1. Cell phones - ugh! Shut them off! The worst part
is that when you speak on the phone, you talk twice as loudly, so
the entirely restaurant has to hear your one-sided boring conversations!
2. We love your kid, but...sometimes we are going
to the restaurant to get away from ours! So when your child pays
us a visit, check our body language to see if we welcome that visitor
or would prefer to be left alone.
3. Eat, drink and be merry - but don't laugh and yak
so loudly that no one else in the restaurant can be heard.
4. We understand screaming kids
(we've been there), but if your child won't stop, please lead him
away from the dining area until he settles down.
5. Wear whatever you like. But just remember those
tight size 6 hip-hugger jeans on a size 18 butt are making me lose
my appetite!
Okay - the meatball is in your court, now: anything
bug you? And don't be shy - if it's something we can do to improve,
we want to know about it!

Make your event something special.
Have it at D'Amato's. Call Terry Martin at our Ann Arbor
Location (734-623-7400) or Paul Jackman in Royal Oka (248-584-7400.)

We hope you'll join us. You'll
become a wine afficianado in no time, and you'll meet a
lot of new friends! Call us at 248-584-7400 for details.

He
was small - almost tiny. Dressed casually, but expensively.
We met him when he was in town for the Grand Prix,
and he and Mario Andretti were guests of Floyd Hall,
Chairman of Kmart. The wife of the couple we were with
nearly tackled him and insisted that he pose for a picture.
He was very accommodating. More
than a Hollywood star, he's a legend. If you haven't
guessed by now (the Grand Prix is a clue), then how
about this clue: he's at home in a kitchen, a real
salad king. Have you guessed yet? Of course - it
was Paul Newman.

How would you like to be a
bartender
for a night?
What bartending skills does Tom Cruise have that
you don't? Show your friends how you can shake 'em with the
best of them. You can be a guest bartender at our companion
bar, Goodnite Gracie. Just get an application from the bartender.
You provide us with the names and addresses of at least 25
of your friends (the 25 who are not afraid to try to concoctions)
and we'll send them all an invitation to watch you pour and
stir on an available Tuesday night.
Don't worry about your skills: we'll have professional
bartenders there to help you deal with the fans and make you
look good.
Best of all, a portion of the night's proceeds
goes to your favorite charity. What's not to like?
